Workshop on "Nepal Drinking Water
Quality Standards"
World
Health Organization (WHO) guideline values are being adopted to meet
the quality standards of drinking water in Nepal. The setting of
drinking water quality (DWQ) standards directly influences the cost
of development projects. As stringent standards are not affordable
at earlier stages of the development, it is desirable to establish
affordable and realistic DWQ standards. Realizing these facts, a
considerable effort have been made to develop Nepal DWQ standards by
various agencies such as Ministry of Population and Environment (MoPE),
Department of Water Supply and Sewerage (DWSS), Nepal Bureau of
Standards (NBS) and other institutions in the country. The main
objective of the workshop was to augment and further improve on the
previous studies and efforts made by various agencies in identifying
parameters with their values for adopting Nepal DWQ standard and
make a consensus among stakeholders. Information Dissemination
Initiatives Pvt. Ltd (IDI) organized the above workshop in which
five papers were presented. About 76 participants from various
institutions participated in the workshop. The workshop was able to
